Item is an example of a Roman style chasuble commonly used before the start of the Second Vatican Council. The purple colour indicates that this chasuble would have been worn during Advent and from Septuagesima to Easter, on vigils that are dast days, on ember-days, except the Vigil of Pentecost and the ember-days during the octave of Pentecost. Violet (or purple) is also used used for Mass on rogation-days, for votive Masses of the Passion and of penitential character, at the blessing of candles and of holy water.
The chasuble has a simple front-side with an image of the "IHS" symbol embroidered on the back side in gold thread.
