The series consists of pastoral letters composed by Bishop Grandin in order to communicate pastoral priorities to the diocesan clergy, missionary oblates, and greek catholic clergy active in the Diocese of St. Albert. The majority of letters are in French, however some English translations exist. In addition the majority of the letters are handwritten, some have been photocopied, and some have been typed (for publication and at a later date for research).
The series consists of handwritten and typed copies of pastoral and circular letters written by Rt. Rev Emile Legal during his time as Bishop of St. Albert and Archbishop of Edmonton. These letters were used as a means of communicating important information to the priests serving parishes and mission in the vast territories that Legal was responsible.

All the letters are in French with the exception of one letter has been translated and typed into English. This appears to have been completed at the time the letter was original written so that it could be circulated to English speaking clergy as more and more Irish priests were making their way to the Diocese of St. Albert, particularly in the southern part of the Diocese.
