        History

        Rev. Ignatius Dominicus Brunisma was born on August 21, 1919 at Roodhius, Friesland, the Netherlands to Garben Bruinsma and Suzanna Flapper. He completed his theological studies at St. Joseph’s Seminary in Edmonton between 1947 and 1951. He was ordained on May 13, 1951 at St. Joseph’s Cathedral, Edmonton by Archbishop John Hugh MacDonald, and became a Canadian Citizen on April 17, 1956.

        Rev. Burnisma served in several parishes in the Archdiocese including Concort (1951-1953), Winfield and Missions (1953-1960), Jasper and Missions (1962-1969), Olds and Missions (1969-1974), and Bashaw and Missions (1974-1987). Rev. Brunisma retired in 1987 and lived and ministered at St. Andrew's Centre until his dealt in 1988.
