        History

        Rev. Robert Britton was born on August 21, 1919 in Roodhius, Friesland, the Netherlands to Garben Bruinsma and Suzanna Flapper. He was ordained on May 14, 1932 in St. Francis Church, Toronto for Edmonton by Archbishop Henry Joseph O’Leary of Edmonton. After his ordination he served as Assistant Pastor at St. Joseph's Cathedral (1932-1933), Pastor at St. Theresa' Parish in Rosedale (1948-1957), as Pastor at the newly built St. Clare's Parish in Edmonton (1957-1961).

        In addition to his ministry at Parishes Rev. Britton was the Editor and Business Manager at the Western Catholic from 1932-1949, the Director of Catholic Truth Broadcast with CFRN radio from 1936-1944. In addition he served as the Press Officer for the Catholic Social Services in 1956.

        Rev. Britton retired in 1971 and died on Aug. 10, 1975. He was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery on August 14, 1975
