The Edmonton Area Jubilee 2000 committee was formed by representatives of many of the Christian groups active in Edmonton, including but not limited to Roman Catholic, Ukrainian Catholic, Baptist, Lutheran, other non-denominational Christian Groups and members at large.
Realizing the mission of the committee “to sponsor and support the events which will reflect the spirit of the jubilee tradition that calls us to glorify God and love our neighbor by “doing justice, loving kindness, and walking humbly with our God,” various events were organized to celebrate 2000 year of Christ.
The Jubilee committee was made up of the following sub-committees: the Steering Committee, the Program Committee, the Publicity Committee, the Site Committee, the Finance Committee, and the Volunteer Committee.
Charged with the care and maintenance of Catholic cemeteries, Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries is a non-profit, cost-recovery organization owned and operated by the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton.
Edmonton Catholic Cemeteries currently operates the following cemeteries in the city of Edmonton, Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum (established in 1954), Our Lady of Peace Cemetery and Columbarium (established in 1993), St. Joachim Cemetery (established in 1888), St. Albert Cemetery (established in 1862), and St. Anthony Cemetery (established in 1902).
Priscilla Edwards was born on April 12, 1927. Orphaned and with tuberculosis, Priscilla was not expected to live. She spent the first five years of her life in a children's hospital before moving from foster home to foster home in Malden, Massachusetts, USA.
Priscilla became a Roman Catholic in 1953, moved to Canada in 1963 with a sense of call to the Madonna House ministry in Combermere, ON and was missioned by the community to Marion House, Edmonton, AB in 1965. There Priscilla served among inner city people for over a decade. In 1977 she discovered her call to Hospital Ministry, took required courses at St. Paul's University in Ottawa through the generosity of the Catholic Archdiocese of Edmonton, was appointed by Archbishop MacNeil to visit and bring Holy Communion to Roman Catholic patients and families at the University of Alberta Hospital where she served as Chaplain for over 30 years.
